HI, I’m Ben Maxwell. I’m fascinated by people and culture. I believe that brands can make the world a better place. I design brands that have relevance, meaning and purpose.

Digital has re-dressed the balance between people and brands. I’m excited about that – brands are no longer a wish list of values on a PowerPoint slide buried on a server somewhere. Brands are what they do. Which means it’s time to stop saying and start doing.

In 2001 I founded a new type of recycling service – designed for businesses that didn’t care about being green. We called it The Laundry and broke all the rules.

After realising my passion lay in building brands I became a freelance brand strategist. I worked in Portland Oregon, San Francisco and London. In 2004 I re-branded a music technology business around the concept of invisible, human technology. In 2007 I worked on a re-brand of the collaborative consumption workspace The Hub.

I joined the clean tech start-up Onzo in 2008 and worked for two years envisioning how energy data could be visualised and turned into knowledge to engage and empower users.

I’m now working as Head of Insight and Concept at Livity. We help brands elevate their audiences to participants by using marketing budgets to make good, useful things.
